Chapter XIV: Checkmate! [Checkmate!]
"Red alert. He is moving to Shady Side. Call the Curtis Army.
He moved up highway 256, and then 468, and higher.
"Wait, what? He moving to the border. Doesn't he know that the Army will get him?"
The killer had continued down Curtis Point, turned left, and reached Frederick Ave.
"This is the end, killer. No more roads to turn to baffle me.
The black jeep stopped. Then it sped forward straight down the off-roads.
John saw where he was headed to.
The Idlewilde Restoration Project.
There was no Army, border, or anything else. Just an abandoned Construction site.
The black jeep stopped again.
The Black King stepped out.
He shouted,
Two of my fellow Russians had been killed on each side. As you see, I have no gun. Drop yours.
"Okay, let's do it." Said John, Crackling his fists, after dropping his revolver.
They rushed to each other, the killer picking something from the ground.
It was a dagger.
John, as he ran, saw the dagger, smiled, and took his second pistol from his shoes.
The practical solution for being held captive.
John held the gun firmly in his hands. He triggered the gun.
The Black King, who jumped into the river, changed his position suddenly after being hit by the bullet.
John went up to him, put his hand towards his nose.
No breath.
He then checked the King's Pulse.
No beat.
Surely dead.
He walked back to his home.
His postmaster had a letter for him.
He went up to his study, took his glasses, and read the letter.
Not much of use to him.
Then the bell rang.
He opened the door, and saw Katie Brown.
"No work?"
"I took the day off. CNN is baffled by this new ending." She answered.
"Oh, I see."
"Yeah. anyway, wanna go get some coffee?"
"Wait, what do you mean?"
"Just guess. I can't tell all the secrets of a day, you know."
John thought about it.
"Oh. It's a date."
The End.
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS
